SPRING SECOND STAGE | Seeking Applicants for LIGHTEN UP: a Comedy Festival about Colorism
APPLICATION DEADLINE: TUE FEB 12 AT 11:59PM

Lighten Up is a collaborative exploration of comedy taking place over Spring Quarter culminating in a performance in Pigott Theater May 29-31. Co-produced by TAPS and JUST ART: Stanford Artist/Activist Collective with collaborators Asian American Theater Project (AATP); BLACKstage; and Latinos in Theater (LiT).

Why colorism? Colorism affects our daily lives -- how we groom ourselves, our relationship with the sun, what we buy, how we vote, and how we perceive each other. It is such an everyday, insidious oppression that has utterly absurd day-to-day effects. Simply put, it's ripe for comedy.

Why you? You want to learn how to write smart, funny-as-f*ck jokes. You want to make art about sh*t you actually care about. You want to learn standup from Peacock Rebellion, the incomparable QTPOC comedy phenomenon hailing from Oakland, California.

As we look to create an ensemble of 8-12 individuals, first-time performers and first-time writers are welcome and encouraged to apply!
